In 2019 Laura Vonk of Falls Echo Farm and Cathy Rockefeller of Windy Rock Farm came together to form Fresh Beginnings.
Laura, a life-long equestrian professional, and Cathy, a passionate equine rescuer and nurse, saw a desperate need for equine assisted therapy in our community. Often our therapy is provided alongside horses who have come from trauma or been rescued themselves.

Through the interaction with the gentle nature and spirit of the horse, our nonprofit's mission is to provide a safe environment for equine therapy and healing for individuals and small groups. This is accomplished through various ways including handling, grooming, caring for, and riding in one of our specially tailored programs.

Jointly, we aim to improve the quality of life for horses, and as we've grown, we are able to accept and provide sanctuary for horses in need and rescue horses.

At Fresh Beginnings, we have a herd that is comprised of rescues from situations such as kill pens, slaughterhouses, physical and mental abuse, high stress environments, and the list goes on. We see the pain these horses have in their pasts and we've entered into most of their lives at often the most crucial of times.
One of the most beautiful things about the work that we do is seeing miracles when we take these horses into our care and give them a place that is safe, clean, quiet, and where they can begin to build trust with humans again. The success stories we witness come in the small victories of having the horses health be improved, seeing their personalities come back to them, and being able to generally love them as we know they deserve as living, noble creatures.

Our herd requires a lot of upkeep to ensure that their successful rehab and their continued improvement stays on the up. This looks like both a lot of dedication and hands-on from our powerhouse team of staff and volunteers, and also the generosity of those who donate towards our herd funds by sponsoring our sweet horses to help with monthly costs.
We at Fresh Beginnings believe in the holistic healing that these horses can bring to others through their own personal journeys of rehab. If our mission speaks to you, we would love to partner with you and have your support of our herd!
